5.2.1     Describe the function of semiconductor Diode

5.2.2     Communicate about the function of semiconductor diode and capacitor as a rectifier

Prerequisite knowledge:

  1. Electric charge – negative and positive.

Prior knowledge/ Misconception/Learning Difficulties:

  1. Students are aware of the attraction and repulsion of negative and positive charges.
  2. Students are aware that current moves from positive to negative terminal and electron moves from negative to positive terminal.
  3. Confusion between terminal of semiconductor diode.
  4. Confusion between the movement of electrons and holes for forward and reverse biased.

 

Instructional Goal:

 At the end of the lesson, students are able to describe the function of a semiconductor diode and explain the function of a semiconductor diode and capacitor as a rectifier.

Instructional Objectives:

Students should be able to:

      State the function of semiconductor diodes as an electronic component that allow the current flow in one way.

      Explain the function of a semiconductor diode and capacitor as a rectifier.

      Draw the half-wave and full-wave rectification circuits.

      Determine the output graph of half-wave and full-wave rectification.

      Introduce the idea of a semiconductor, a material that can conduct electricity under certain conditions.

      Explain the structure of a semiconductor diode, including the p-type and n-type semiconductor regions and the depletion layer.

      Show the flow of electric current in the circuit of forward biased and reverse biased.

·       Explain about P-Type semiconductor combined with N-Type semiconductor forming a P-N Junction.

·       Explain about what happened to semiconductor diode in forward biased circuit and reversed biased circuit.

Ia telah dianugerahkan status Sekolah Kluster Kecemerlangan pada tahun 2009 oleh Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia. Sejarah Pembinaan sekolah ini bermula pada 1987 dan siap pada Disember 1988. Sekolah ini dibuka secara rasmi kepada kumpulan pertama pelajarnya pada 3 Januari 1989. Lambang sekolah "Berfikir Asas Kebijaksanaan": dicetak dalam warna hitam, menekankan kepentingan kemahiran berfikir untuk berjaya. Padi : makanan ruji rakyat Malaysia yang menjamin kesihatan dan kesejahteraan pelajar.  Tahun 1989/1409: pembukaan SMK Damansara Utama. Obor menyala: melambangkan keberanian, ketegasan dan disiplin yang disemai di SMKDU. Daun sirih Warna lambang sekolah ialah warna bendera Malaysia.
